The late John Martin Lindesay-Bethune (1929 – 2013)

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of the Hon. John Lindesay-Bethune on Tuesday 18th June 2013 at Murrayfield Hospital, Edinburgh.  John was the son of the 14th Earl of Lindsay and a Trustee of our Society.  He lived latterly in his house “Muircambus” near Elie, Fife, but as a boy, was brought up in the “Castle” at Kilconquhar, although he always referred to it as Kilconquhar House.

John is survived by his wife Jean and 4 children from his first marriage.  His education took place at Eton College, to be followed by the acquisition of his degree from Cambridge University.  He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Scots Guards.  John, along with other members of his close family, was a strong supporter of the Society for many years, serving on the Board of Management.   Our deepest sympathy goes to his wife and family at this sad time.   He was greatly respected by all the Clan Lindsay Society Members.

A Thanksgiving Service was held at Kilconquhar Parish Church to his memory onThursday, 4th July 2013.  Lord Lindsay, his nephew, gave tribute with some very lively descriptions of his achievements and perhaps some best forgotten moments that all served to remind us what a remarkable character he was.  He will be deeply missed by his many friends.
